Our baby boy Roman from Dublin is 3 months old we found out when Roman was just 8 weeks old he had a tumour in his left eye that is a form of eye cancer called Retinoblastoma.
As a parent we take loads of pictures of our kids and i noticed in Romans photos with a flash on his left eye was presenting a white glow – and as a mammy we just know when something is wrong.
My gut feeling unfortunately gave us the devastating news, from a Friday at his GP check up to a Monday at hospital he was diagnosed. As you can imagine our lives were turned upside down in a matter of minutes of hearing them devastating words that your baby has cancer.
From the moment the hospital social worker linked us with John from the Gavin Gylnn foundation i just knew we were in the best hands. John & Jayne have been absolute god sends to us without them and there help of booking and covering the cost of our flightsfor Romans treatment in the UK every 4 weeks I genuinely don’t know how we would do this. The relief of not having to worry about flights and having the assistance of the Aer Lingus crew & volunteers for TGGF on our first UK trip was such relief.
The generosity of the guys has been amazing, taking the stress and pressure off us as a family who are already devastated with the news of our baby we really cannot thank them enough, the kindness of strangers to us at this time its just heartwarming to know they are there for us while we are on this journey.
John, Jayne, the airport volunteers and all the people who donate to TGGF we couldn’t do this without you guys – when i say thank you i mean it from the bottom of my heart.
