Ciara was a very sporty 16 year old who’s passion was playing Camogie and football for club and county, she also loved horse riding and martial arts. She kept us entertained with Trad tunes on her fiddle. Ciara just achieved and excelled in whatever she set her mind to.
Ciara initially developed pain and discomfort in her groin and hip flexor muscle, she did numerous physiotherapy sessions, strength and conditioning classes to try and resolve what was considered a “ sports Injury “.
However following an MRI scan in Feb 2022 our world was turned upside down when an abnormality was detected on the MRI which went on to Ciara being diagnosed with an Osteosarcoma in her right pelvic bone.
Her treatment plan was 6 cycles of Chemotherapy in St Vincent’s Hospital Dublin followed by Surgery in the Royal Orthopedic Hospital in Birmingham.
Each cycle was approximately 6 weeks long which involved very long hospital stays ,this split our family in two. Ciara took on her treatment plan in true Ciara style with a full force “get on with it” attitude despite being hospitalised several times suffering with severe mucositus , this was a side effect of the treatment.
We were given John Glynn’s contact details as someone who could help us and give us an insight on Birmingham not realising at the time how invaluable John would be to us…..
When we reached a stage in Ciara’s treatment which involved a consultation in Birmingham we contacted John for information.
We were completely astonished to learn that John through the The Gavin Glynn Foundation would arrange flights, transfers and accommodation in Birmingham.
John had all this organised within 15 mins of our initial conversation.
The Gavin Glynn Foundation is an absolutely wonderful charity , to book and make all the travel arrangements removes the stress ,strain and worries along with the huge financial burden for families needing to travel abroad for treatment.
John has been an incredible support to our family and continues to support us as we move to the next stage of Ciara’s treatment in Birmingham.
Ciara is looking forward to fundraising and shinning a light on the amazing work that John and The Gavin Glynn Foundation do…..
We will be forever grateful to them x
